| | Origin: Malaysia: Malakka. Indonesia: Sumatra and Kalimantan( Borneo) .
Etymology: Tri= Three, Lineata= Lines
Synonyms: Rasbora calliura, Rasbora stigmatura.
First Eropean import: Germany, 1932, by the firm Aquarium Hamburg.
Description: See pictures.
Care: Require larger tanks with lots of free swimming space, with plants on the sides. Slightly acidic water, soft to medium hard( below 12 dGH) and peat filtration. In this type of tank a school of 4-8 Rasbora trilineata should be kept. The fish are quiet and undisturbing to other tankinhabitants, since they don' t swim around nervously. A dark soil and some shade are appreciated, but not required. The fish inhabit the middle and upper regons of the tank.
Temperature: 23-25 degrees.
Feeding: Omnivorous, all food is taken.
Size: up to 15 cm in nature, in aquariums smaller.
pH: 5.5-7.0
Breeding: Difficult, require painfully clean tanks, or else the eggs and the fry will perish. To get the fish to breed, you' ll need a large breeding tank with soft acidic water, lots of plants, and a lowered waterlevel. The fish will spawn in pairs or as a group, depositing the eggs between the plants. After spawning the parents should be removed, since they will eat the eggs and the fry. Since the eggs are very sensitive it' s best to add an antibiotic to the water, and/ or to do frequent waterchanges. Fry will hatch in 24 hours, and will immediately take artemia nauplii after the yolksac has been consumed.
Sexual dimorphism: Males are a bit smaller, females are more plump if eggs have been formed. | | |
